Greg Baker
Piano accompanist. More than 45 years live on stage, studio, entertainment, correpetitor, musicals, playing at sight...ect....
On my musical path of life since I was 5 years I studied and practiced piano playing.
In that period I was taught by two piano teachers up to the age of nineteen.
Living for music was born in my mind in that early time of my life. So I decided after my final secondary-school examinations to audit an entrance examination at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover for a licentiate degree as high school teacher i.e. music and french as a functional direction. However, I quitted after two semesters and made my commercial completion as industrial business management assistant.
As music was and is always the heart and soul of my life, I moved then to Berlin, running different musical shows at the Berliner Kammerspiele (Rocky Horror Show [ by Richard O’Brien ] / The fat pig wanted to get thin [by Jérôme Savary]), jingle productions, several bands touring mainly in Europe.
At the age of 30 (1987), I realized that I won't earn my living by being an artist as a pianist.
I was afraid that I would start not to be anymore "in love" daily practising music to earn my living. I was really concerned that this love could turn into hate.
And my heart said in this time: You should protect your love for music.
I did so.
From 1988 up to 2011 I hold various commercial sales positions mostly as a head of sales & marketing in several international operating companies, amongst others, Steinway & Sons, Sebapharma and Hauni Maschinenbau (high speed cigarette making machines for the worldwide operating tobacco industry).
However, as I was very successful in these jobs at that period and furthermore I stayed always closed to practise music on the piano in my leisure time, not being aware how much I missed it as well as the deep inner desire to spend much more time of my life to it again.
In 1991 I got married and divorced in 2010.
In 2011 I moved to Hamburg Blankenese and out of my heart & soul suddenly hopped out what I always wanted to do up the end of my life:
Music, music and nothing else but music!
Thanks God ;-)!!!
In July 2011 I founded "Greg Baker Productions" and as a conclusion concerning my " former" life as a (semi-professional) musician, I decided to go for a very professional and very disciplined pianist / organist / composer / arranger.
Specializing as an accompanist at the piano, composer and arranger, ) I co-operate(-d) amongst others with Tine Wittler (Lokalrunde), Eckart Breitschuh (Breitschuh singt Brel), René Uyumaz (dr), Hardy Best (bs), Andrew Bryan (dr), Matthias Kraus (gt), Marcus Prell (Ratpack), Martina Rudolph (classical sopranist), Denise Norton (sopranist/musical), Jim Ferguson "Mr. Soul" (ex Hot chocolate / Les Humphries), Stefan Drews (Best of Billy Joel and Elton John)...ect.
With all of them I shared and still do share the happiest and fruitful moments when we are coming together either in the studio or on stage.
