Nicolò Umberto Foron, is a German - Italian conductor, whose remarkable talent has been recognized with significant accolades, including winning the prestigious “Donatella Flick” Conducting Competition in March 2023 and the International Conducting Competition “Jeunesse Musicales” in Bucharest in 2021. He is now working as the Assistant Conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra and Ensemble Intercontemporain.<br /> <br />In recent years, Foron has worked with prestigious orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig’s Mendelssohn Academy, Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, Staatskapelle Weimar, Opéra National de Montpellier, Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen and the Tanglewood Festival Orchestra, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI in Turin, Philharmonisches Orchester des Theater Freiburg, Opéra National de Lorraine, Orchestre National d’Ile-de-France, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, where he conducted his first premiere of contemporary music. He just performed at the Elbphilharmonie with Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben and made his debut at the Vienna Konzerthaus with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra.<br /> <br />Moreover, as assistant conductor he has collaborated with Maestros like Sir Antonio Pappano, Andris Nelsons, Matthias Pintscher, Sir Mark Elder, Daniele Gatti and Jukka - Pekka Saraste. <br /> <br />In addition, the 2024 - 2025 season will see Foron carry out a series of performances with the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra and Viktoria Mullova, Ensemble Intercontemporain and the Arktisk Filharmoni which will take him to prestigious venues such as the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Concertgebouw Amsterdam and Die Glocke Bremen just to name a few. He will also conduct the SWR Symphony Orchestra, Bremen Philharmonic, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Arktisk Filharmoni, Basque National Orchestra and Odense Symfonieorkester.<br /> <br />Renowned for his versatility, Foron has conducted numerous world premieres, in particular collaborating with Ensemble Intercontemporain and he excels in symphonic and operatic repertoires. His operatic achievements include performances of “The Marriage of Figaro” (Riccardo Muti Italian Opera Academy), “Hansel and Gretel” (Staatskapelle Weimar) and Walter Kollo’s operetta “Jettchen Gebert” , alongside contemporary Dutch opera premieres. <br /> <br />Foron’s musical career began at an early age, studying conducting, composition and piano, the latter being his first instrument. He trained with renowned pianists namely K.H.Kammerling and A. Ugorski and he started studying conducting at the early age of 10 under Jorma Panula. His extraordinary abilities drew the attention of Bernard Haitink, who invited him to take part in masterclasses at the Lucerne Festival. At the age of 16, Foron commenced formal conducting studies at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, followed by a master’s degree at the Royal College of Music and Advanced Diploma in Performance at the Royal Academy of Music in London graduating in 2021. He continues performing as a concert pianist, often collaborating with his sister, violinist Mira Foron. <br /> <br />During the period of the lockdown, Foron conducted the Noord Netherlands Orchestra in a livestream and in a CD recording featuring Jan Peter de Graaf’s Cello Concerto, which granted him a nomination for the German Schallplatten Prize.
